Meet the Doctors
Dr Andy Gofreed
Hi, I am Dr. Andrew Gofreed (Andy). I am a veterinarian, a father and a husband. My wife's name is Tonya and I have two sons named Alex and Aaron. I have two dogs: a Miniature Pincher named Scooby, and a lab-mix named Honey.
My father, Edward, established the Indian Head Animal Hospital in 1957 and I have been working with animals and medicine ever since. I have been a veterinarian since 1972 and I have seen many medical advances over the years. Initially, blood tests were sent to an outside lab and the results may not have been known for three or four days. Now we have a counter top computer that gives us results within minutes. We also have gas anesthesia, automatic x-ray processors, high speed rare earth x-ray film, top rated X-ray machine, dental machines, and even Laser surgery unit to name just a few of the many improvements. We also have many modern medicines and access to veterinary specialists.
I have seen our community grow in scale from a small farm type community to suburbia. I remember when Indian Head Highway was a two-lane road and now it is a 6-lane highway that needs to be larger to efficiently carry the traffic load. I am also seeing second and third generations of our clients coming back to their family veterinarians. That is pretty cool. Yes, there have been a lot of changes, but one thing that hasn't changed over the years is our commitment to give our clients and their pets the caring and compassionate high quality veterinary care that they have come to expect.
I am a member of the American Veterinary Association, the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and the D.C. Academy of Veterinary Medicine. I am also an associate member of the American Animal Hospital Association.
Dr. Eric Gofreed
Hi,
I'm Dr. Eric Gofreed and I have worked at the Indian Head Animal Hospital
since 1957. Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a veterinarian. Perhaps
it was my love of animals, perhaps it was my fascination with medicine,
or perhaps having a veterinarian for a father influenced my life-long dream.
My father, Edward Gofreed, founded the Indian Head Animal Hospital when
I was 7 years old and I have been working with animal ever since. I loved
it and my father enjoyed my company and my enthusiasm. I would clean cages
and work in the kennels on the weekends and summers. As a teenage I was
a groomer doing all the bathing and haircuts. I have worked as the receptionist,
surgical assistant, lab tech, janitor, gardener, painter, plumber and any
other work asked. It was hard work but it was also fun and it has been a
privilege to work with my father and family throughout childhood and now
as veterinarian. It has been a-dream-come-true. And it's a dream I will
continue to live until I can no longer be of service to my clients, my patients
and my profession. I graduated from Kansas State University in 1974 and came home to join my father and my brother (Andrew Gofreed KSU class of 1972) at the Indian Head Animal Hospital. My brother and I purchased the IHAH in 1988. We always consider ourselves a family practice not just in the sense that the veterinarians were family but that our staff, our clients, and their pets were family too. Our goal has been to offer high quality veterinary medicine with compassionate and friendly service.
I am a member of the American Veterinary Association, the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and the Veterinary Surgical Laser Society. I am also an associate member of the American Animal Hospital Association. I am a family man. Joanne and I were married in 1971. We have three grown children, Philip, Erin, Sharon and one grandson, Jared. We have great kids. We also have a little black cat named Nemo.
I have many hobbies. I am a weekend artist, I started painting when I was thirteen and our walls are covered with landscapes and portraits of my family. I love birds and bird watching. I know most North American birds on sight and perhaps 350 birds by their songs. I create highly detailed bird carvings out of wood. I also turn wood on a lathe creating decorative wood bowls, plates and such. To satisfy my exercise needs, I have find joy in hiking, weight training, and biking. I enjoy carpentry and home renovations. I love books, movies, music, people, the great outdoors and practicing veterinary medicine.
Dr. Camille Lewis Chesley
Hi,
I'm Dr, Camille Lewis Chesley. I found a home at the Indian Head Animal
Hospital in 1987 after graduating from the Virginia - Maryland Regional
College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg Virginia. I am originally from Washington D.C. Despite growing up in the city, I developed a love for animals, both small and large. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to become a veterinarian and was fortunate to obtain that goal.
I enjoy working with the animals and the staff at the Indian Head Animal Hospital. I am frequently "hiding" in surgery most mornings at the hospital. It is most gratifying to help keep beloved family embers as healthy as possible while getting to know the both pets and owners over the years. It gives me an especially good feeling when we are able to particularly sick animals recover.
I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the D.C. Academy of Veterinary Medicine, The Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and I am an associate member of the American Animal Hospital Association.
I am married and live on a small farm near Bowie. We have 2 dogs; a Shiba Inu named Kai and a German Shepard named Kyra. I also have 2 cats and a few horses. My biggest and most time consuming hobby is riding and showing American Paint horses. They have given me years of enjoyment. Veterinary medicine has been a rewarding career for me.
Dr Stacey Young
Hi,
I'm Dr Stacey Young and my family has been bringing our pets to the Indian
Head Animal Hospital as long as I can remember. After graduating from college,
I worked here as a technician for 3 years before going back to college to
earn DVM degree, and came back home to the Indian Head Animal Hospital immediately
after graduation in 1996. I love getting to know our clients and their pets. It is very rewarding to meet a new puppy or kitten and get to know it and keep it healthy throughout its life and to enhance the joy the owner get from their pets. I believe animals contribute a great deal to people's lives and I am honored to be a part of our patient's and our client's lives.
I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the D.C. Academy of Veterinary Medicine, The Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and I am an associate member of the American Animal Hospital Association. I am also a member of the Southern Maryland Dog Training Club and I volunteer one night a week to teach basic obedience training.
I am married and I live with my husband, 3 horse, 3 dogs, 4 cats and an iguana. I enjoy horseback riding, hiking, reading and travel.
