Andy Gofreed, DVM
Dr. Andrew "Andy" Gofreed’s father, Edward, established the Indian Head Animal Hospital in 1957. Andy has been working with animals and medicine ever since. Dr. Andy graduated from veterinary school in 1972 and has seen many medical advances over the last forty years. Initially, blood tests were sent to an outside lab and the results may not have been known for three or four days; making diagnosing a sick patient harder. Today we are able to obtain blood work results with in minutes using an in house counter top computer. Many improvements like gas anesthesia, surgical monitors, digital radiography, dental cleaning machines, and Laser surgery have allowed us to practice better, safer and more accurate medicine. In addition, the access to veterinary specialists has allowed us to offer the most advanced and thorough medical care to our patients.
Andy has seen our community grow in scale from a small farm-type community to suburbia. He remembers when Indian Head Highway was a two-lane road and now it is a six-lane highway. Andy specially enjoys seeing second and third generations of our clients coming back to the hospital seeking for the best care for their beloved pets. Yes, there have been a lot of changes, but one thing that hasn't changed over the years is our commitment to give our clients and their pets the caring and compassionate high quality veterinary care that they have come to expect from us.
Andy is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and the D.C. Academy of Veterinary Medicine (DCAVM). He is also an associate member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Dr. Andy is a veterinarian, a father and a husband. He spends his free time with his wife, Tonya, and his two sons Alex and Aaron. He has two dogs: a Miniature Pincher named Scooby, and a Lab-mix named Honey.
